Defiance School Board Meets

At Monday’s Defi­ance City Board of Edu­ca­tion meet­ing, dis­cus­sion cen­tered around the con­struc­tion project that is planned, along with an emi­nent domain res­o­lu­tion which was approved.

The dis­trict plans to soon sub­mit doc­u­ments to the Ohio Facil­i­ties Con­struc­tion Com­mis­sion for the schematic design phase at the grade 6–12 site. A 12,000-square-foot addi­tion is also planned for the ele­men­tary school. Ground­break­ing could begin this fall, with a com­ple­tion date of approx­i­mately Decem­ber 2017.

The board also exer­cised emi­nent domain by approv­ing a res­o­lu­tion declar­ing the neces­sity to appro­pri­ate land for con­struc­tion of new school build­ing, related facil­i­ties and improve­ments. That res­o­lu­tion will affect 4.2 acres owned by Talmer and San­dra Hill­man on Palmer Drive with an appraised fair mar­ket value of $115,000.
