Betty Kathryn “Katie” Thorp, 91

Betty Kathryn “Katie” Thorp, age 91, of Bryan, Ohio, quietly passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday morning, February 18, 2018 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance. Katie was born March 24, 1926, the daughter of Ora and Fern (Wheeler) Shinabarger. Katie attended Pioneer High School, graduating in 1944. She worked at the Aro Corporation, the Ohio Art Company and Holibird Company.

On June 7, 1947, Katie married her beloved husband, Darrell E. Thorp and together they raised four children. Katie adored her husband of over 54 years and their family life together in Bryan.

Katie loved many things including weekend camping, gardening and playing games with her family. She was a devoted member of Faith United Methodist Church.

Beyond anything, Katie loved her family. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Anita) Thorp, of Savannah, Georgia, Randy (Carol) Thorp, of Defiance and Rob (Toni) Thorp, of Cincinnati; son-in-law, Terry Courtney, of Springfield, Ohio; her four grandchildren, Scott (Lois) Courtney, Tosha (Todd) Moyer, Zach and Taylor Thorp and four great grandchildren. She also leaves behind an extended family of seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell E. Thorp; daughter, Connie Courtney; grandson, Cody Thorp and brothers, Robert Shinabarger and Richard Tressler.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Ted Mathes officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.

The Thorp family would ask that memorials be made in Katie’s name to Community Health Professionals Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
