105-Year Prison Sentence Upheld

The Indiana state Court of Appeals has upheld a 105-year prison sentence for a northeast Indiana man convicted of fatally shooting another man and shooting at a sheriff’s deputy during a chase.

According to the Herald Republican, 26-year-old Zao Garth Burrell of Angola appealed his sentence, arguing he didn’t deserve the maximum sentence because there was no lying in wait, multiple gun shots, or children nearby, mutilation of the body or other such despicable acts according to his appeal.

Burrell also argued over the weight of the methamphetamine sold to 40-year-old Brent Dombroski which led to the shooting in 2012.

In upholding the sentence, the court said Burrell showed contempt for the law by shooting at a Steuben County deputy.
