Alice Short, 85

Alice R. Short, age 85, of Wauseon, passed away Wednesday morning, April 2, 2014 at the Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. Alice was an accomplished artist who early in her career drew sales flyers for fashion ads in newspapers. She also loved painting in oil. She always entered her paintings in the Fulton County Fair and in 1976 she won the grand prize for best artist.

Alice was born in Stark County, Ohio on April 24, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Sluss) Russell. On March 19, 1955 she married Myrl Short, and he survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wauseon. Alice enjoyed all things around the house and especially gardening. Most of all she loved and enjoyed her family.

Surviving besides her husband, Myrl, are their children Dave (Kim) Short of Franklin, IN, Susan (Tim) Shipley of Wauseon, Daniel Short of Wauseon; three grandchildren, Erika Short, Daron (Rachael) Short and Tyler Shipley and one great-grandson Evan Russell Short. She is also survived by two sisters, Jean Harrison of Kent, Ohio, Joey Kelsey of Rootstown, Ohio; and two brothers, Bill Russell of Holland, Michigan and Dewey Russell of Seattle, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Glenn Russell.

Visitation for Alice will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Wauseon, with Pastor John Shirley and Pastor Ron Shipley, officiating. Interment will be in the Pettisville Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First Baptist Church. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements.
