Barbara Whittington, 78

Barbara J. Whittington, 78 years, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 in her residence with her son at her side.  Barbara was born June 14, 1935 in Grimms Landing, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James and Goldie (Mays) Herdman.  She was a 1953 graduate of Buffalo High School, Buffalo, West Virginia.  She married Raymond O. Whittington on June 11, 1960 in Charleston, West Virginia, and he preceded her in death on July 27, 2001.  Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took immense pride in caring for her family.  She was a member of First Brethren Church, Bryan, Ohio.  Barbara enjoyed bowling and was an avid bowler for many years.  She also enjoyed going to the Gospel Barn near Hillsdale every Saturday to listen to Gospel music.

Surviving is her son, Phillip (Jeanine) Whittington of Bryan, Ohio; two grandchildren, Megan and Michael Whittington, both of Bryan; two sisters, Rose Martin of Buffalo, West Virginia and Ruby (John) Legg of Pioneer, Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, one sister, Beulah Goddard and an infant brother.

Visitation for Barbara J. Whittington will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home-Greensien Chapel, 225 East High Street, Bryan, Ohio.  She will then be transported to Raynes Funeral Home, 2117 Buffalo Road, Buffalo, West Virginia where visitation will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Funeral services for Barbara J. Whittington will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Raynes Funeral Home with Pastor Jake Eldridge officiating.  Interment will follow in Buffalo Memorial Park, Buffalo West Virginia.
