Defiance Man Charged With Murder Following Death Of Infant

Defiance Police are calling it a case of shaken baby syndrome. Now, a Defiance man is behind bars, and police say he’s responsible for the death of a five month old girl.

29 year old James Cooper has been charged with first degree felony murder.

Cooper is being held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, and was scheduled to appear in Defiance Municipal Court today.

Investigators allege that Cooper killed the five month old baby girl, who died over the weekend at Toledo Childrens Hospital, where she was taken after first being taken to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital.

Cooper is said to be the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, but was not reportedly, the father of the baby.

The baby’s mother called 9–1-1 on Friday after Cooper allegedly injured the infant at a home on Corwin Street in Defiance where the couple lived together.
