HAWKEY GUILTY

A jury in Defiance County on Friday found a woman guilty of aggravated murder and five other charges.

The verdict was handed down against 46 year old Judith Hawkey on charges of aggravated murder; four counts of endangering children; and insurance fraud.

Hawkey’s $3 million bond was immediately revoked, and the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Sentencing is now set for 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 19.

Hawkey now faces a sentence of life imprisonment on the aggravated murder charge alone.

Her trial, on charges that she caused her then ten year old stepson to shoot and kill her husband back on 2003, began on Oct. 28 and ended with closing arguments Friday morning and jury deliberation in the afternoon. The jury reached its verdict around 4 p.m. Friday.
