James Gale Coe, Ph.D., 70

James Gale Coe, Ph.D., 70, passed away November 7, 2018. Born January 29, 1948 to Russell and Gladys Coe, Ft. Wayne, James attended Elmhurst High School, 1966, was an Eagle Scout, H.S. Drum Major, and DeMolay member. James graduated from Indiana University, 1971. James and Linda Chapman (Coe) were married in 1971. James worked as a financial analyst at International Harvester in Indianapolis and Chicago1973-1983. He earned an M.S. from National Louis University and a Ph.D. from Regent University. In 1983, James became a Professor of Business at Taylor University, Upland, IN, where he served for 23 years. He received the “Teaching Excellence Campus Leadership Award” in 1994. In 2006 James became Dean of the Gainey School of Business, Spring Arbor University, in Spring Arbor, MI.

Throughout James’s life he traveled the world leading and teaching educational programs, seminars, and classes. James traveled to Europe, Russia, China, and India. He founded the Oxford Study Program at Taylor University and Wellspring Foundation in support of the Nizhny Novgorod University/Taylor University exchange program. He collaborated in the founding of Immanuel University, Hyderabad, India. James’s passion in life was to teach others, share his faith, and encourage others to make an impact on the world.

James is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Chapman Coe, and two children, Sarah Coe-Gillam (Jeremiah); grandchildren, Nathaniel and Nicholas Gillam and Matthew Coe (Sarah); grandchildren, Audrey, Olivia, and Roman Coe.

Memorial service is 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at Leo United Methodist Church, 13527 Leo Rd., Leo, IN. with a time to receive friends two hours prior to service. Preferred memorials are to Coe Family Endowed Scholarship at Taylor University; Leo United Methodist Church (Missions); and Spring Arbor University Gainey School of Business.
