Les Banister, 72

Lester W. “Les” Banister, age 72, of Wauseon passed from this life on Friday January 3, 2014 at the University of Toledo Medical Center surrounded by his wife and family. He had suffered a major stroke.

Mr. Banister was born on November 5, 1941 the son of the late Wayne and the late Lucille (Arnold) Banister in the Detwiler Memorial Hospital in Wauseon. He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation but still farmed and raised pigs. He suffered his stroke doing what he loved to do, being at his farm working. He was a member of the Emmaus Lutheran Church in Wauseon.

He is survived by his wife, Odette (Pursel) Banister and seven children; Brian (Gina) Banister, Chad (Kris) Banister, Troy (Jen) Banister, Jared (Cindy) Banister, Rod (Michelle) Andrews, Dani Tedrow and Wendy (Jesse) Mendezabal, 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. Also surviving is sister; Jane Banister of El Paso, TX and Aunts Melva (Mel) Grisier and Annabelle Leupp. Preceding him in death besides his parents were his grandparents; Rinaldo and Ruth Banister and Leo and Mabel Arnold.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Thursday January 9, 2014 at the Emmaus Lutheran Church in Wauseon with the Rev. Charles Althoff officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 12:00-8:00pm and from 10:30 until service time on Thursday.
