Sylvia Tompkins, 89

Sylvia Walker Tompkins, 89 years, of Montpelier, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center, Bryan, Ohio.  Sylvia was born July 26, 1924 in Salyersville, Kentucky, the daughter of Okra and Cynthia (Spradlin) Hackworth.  Sylvia was employed by Fulton Tubing for 17 years, retiring due to a disability.  She enjoyed making crafts, gardening, caring for her flowers, playing skip-bo, cooking for her family and gathering the family together for special occasions.  She also enjoyed making her own cards which she would give to family members.

Surviving is her daughter, Carol (Dennis) Dohm of Montpelier; one son, Daryl (Teresa) Walker of Columbus, Indiana; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (John) Tucker of Bryan and Mandy (Gene) Oliphant also of Bryan; three brothers, James (Earlene) Hackworth of Warsaw, Indiana, Jack (Sandra) Hackworth of Prestonburg, Kentucky and Bill Hackworth of Salyersville, Kentucky.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Glenda Gay Walker, three sisters, Grace Minix, Mable Raub and Carolyn Hackworth as well as two brothers, Kurt and Delmar Hackworth.

Visitation for Sylvia Walker Tompkins will be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – Greenisen Chapel, 225 East High Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 with Dr. James Adams officiating.  Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery, Bryan.
